The Past Of Pyrite

Pyrite has a long and wealthy past that dates back to ancient times. Pyrite was used by ancient cultures such as Greeks Romans Egyptians and Incas for different objectives such as:-

  • Making fire:- Pyrite was used as a fire starter along with flint or marcasite another sulfide mineral. Pyrite was even used to burn fire in rituals (pooja) and ceremonies as a symbol of light (Agni Dev) & warmth.
  • Making jewelry:- Pyrite was used as a gemstone for making rings bracelets necklaces and other jewelrys. Pyrite was loved for its gorgeous golden shade and its ability to reflect sunlight. Pyrite was also believed to hold magical and healing properties such as protecting you from evil-eye(Nazar) and improving intelligence.
  • Making weapons:- Pyrite was also used as a part for making weapons such as swords, blades & spears. Pyrite was known to improve the strength and durability of the metal and also to give it a shiny look. Pyrite was also thought to boost courage and confidence to the soldiers who wears it.
  • Making coins:- Pyrite was used as a material for making coins specifically in Middle Ages and was used as a currency just like gold. Pyrite was mixed with different different metals such as copper silver ya gold to create alloys that had a more increased value and lighter weight. Pyrite was also used to fake gold coins by coating them with light layer of pyrite.
